What is different between the trial version and the full version?

Absolutely no functionality within the entire application has been limited during the trial evaluation period of 30 days. You will have full use of the product and all features during this time. After using the trial edition for 15 days, you will begin to see reminders that the application is nearing the end of the evaluation period whilst connecting to a database.

Can I extend my evaluation?

An additional 30 days may be requested for extended evaluation by completing the the Evaluation Extension form.

How do I switch between using the Oracle Client and a TCP/IP Connection?

When you run SQL Insight for the first time, you will be prompted to use either the Oracle Client configuration, or connect directly using TCP/IP connections, bypassing the need for the Oracle Client to be installed on the local machine. If you desire to change this setting at a later time, you may do so within the "Session Options". To get to the Session Options, open the application, locate the Edit menu from the main menu on the top of the window, and select the menu item "Editor Options". The options wizard will appear. On the left hand side of the options wizard, you will notice many areas that may be configured. Locate and select the Session Options from this list to modify how your database connections will be made.

What is a Session?

The window containing the SQL Editor, the Query Results, and the other miscellaneous tabs displayed with the Query Results is known as the Session Window. As Isidian® SQL Insight is a Multiple Document Interface (MDI), you may have several of these windows open at once. Each Session Window belongs to one single database connection. Therefore, if you have 2 database connections open, you will have 2 Session Windows, one for each connection. The caption of the window will display the login connection description for that Session.

How do I set a bookmark?

Within a SQL Editor, a bookmark may be set using the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+#, where # is the bookmark number you wish to set (0 through 9). To move the editing cursor back to a previously set bookmark, you may use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+#, where # is the bookmark number you wish to go to (0 through 9). Bookmarks may also be set or retrieved using the right-click menu within the SQL Editor or from the Edit main menu.

How do I debug a PL/SQL block?

First and foremost, you must be using the Professional Edition of Isidian SQL Insight. The PL/SQL debugger is integrated into the SQL Editor, meaning that no additional windows or interfaces are necessary for debugging PL/SQL.

To debug an anonymous block that you have created, use the option "Step Into" or "Step Over" from the Run main menu instead of using the option "Execute Statement" or "Execute All as Statement". This will automatically start the debugger for the code you are developing and stop on the first line of execution.

Another method, as the PL/SQL Debugger is integrated into the SQL Editor, is to simply place a breakpoint on any desired line within your pl/sql block, using the option "Toggle Breakpoint" from the Run main menu. With a breakpoint in place, execute the pl/sql block normally using the option "Execute Statement" or "Execute All as Statement". The execution will pause directly on the line that contains the breakpoint, allowing you to debug from that point.

How do I debug a Store Procedure or Function?

Using the same strategy as above for "How do I debug a PL/SQL block", you will want to use the option "Step Into" option from the Run main menu when the debugger is stopped on the line containing the stored procedure or function.

How do I get to the Statement Comparisons?

The Statement Comparisons feature may be invoked from the File main menu, under "New...", as the option "New Statement Comparisons". When the Statement Comparisons window appears, it will be completely empty.

To add statements to the Comparisons window, you have several options.
From the primary SQL Editor, you may right-click or go to the Edit main menu and view the option "Send Current Statement To..." or "Send All as Statement To...". Any Statement Comparisons Windows available will appear in the list. Selecting the Statement Comparisons window will send the desired statement to the Comparisons window.
From any other SQL Viewer/Editor, the History List, Pin List, Script Viewer, or Statement Listing, you may right-click and view the option "Send Statement To...". Selecting the Statement Comparisons window will send the currently focused or selected statement to the Comparisons window.

Once you have all desired statements within the Statement Comparisons list, you may perform the comparisons by clicking the "refresh" icon (pressing F5) on the listing, or by right-clicking and selecting the option "Execute Comparisons".

How do I report a bug?

If you identify a bug, discrepancy, or questionable area within the application, please use our Log an Incedent form to notify us of the possible problem.

How do I uninstall SQL Insight?

After Isidian SQL Insight is installed onto a machine, it may be uninstalled through the Window's Control Panel's "Add or Remove Programs".
