Performance Tuning Features
The installation of Oracle Client Software is not required. If desired, SQL Insight may connect directly to an Oracle Database using TCP/IP, bypassing the need for Net8 or any additional software on the client machine. No server modifications are necessary for this ability.
Isidian® SQL Insight 3 will connect, with or without the Oracle Client Software installed, to the following database versions:

Oracle Database 10g

Isidian SQL Insight 3 utilizes MDI, Multiple Document Interface, to allow for multiple asynchronous database sessions within a single application instance.
Using this interface, you may develop, test, debug, and tune within multiple databases or as multiple users at the same time. |

| The SQL Editor is used for most SQL and PL/SQL statement creation, with features such as a tabbed file interface, multiple / custom language syntax highlighting, completion proposal for standard functions and objects / object properties, SQL and PL/SQL formatting, auto-completion hints and shortcuts, and much more. |

| Advanced Grid functionality for the results of queries, table data, view data, and the SGA Browser. The advanced functions within each grid include quick searching for column values, multiple column single-click sorting, drop-down and custom filtering, drag-and-drop column grouping, summary calculations, data exporting, and reporting. |

| The SQL Builder implements an intuitive Designer to generate simple to complex queries using simple drag-and-drop techniques in an easy to use graphical interface. The SQL Builder interface even allows for loading in-line views from previously saved SQL Builder queries, custom variables, and printing or saving the layout for schema diagram generation. |

The Database Browser is used to quickly navigate the entire database for detailed information on various database object using a simple schema-to-object tree view.
Various functions may be invoked from the Database Browser, including adding referential integrity, adding indexes, analyzing objects, generating DDL scripts, dropping objects, and viewing the Oracle 10g Recycle Bin contents. |

| The Auto-Tune functionality within Isidian® SQL Insight will automatically parse and reconstruct poor-performing SQL statements to produce faster, more reliable variations that can replace your current code. This feature also analyzes the optimizer's interpretation of the statement and diagnoses what steps can be performed to increase its efficiency. |

The Explain Plan interface, a statement analysis tool, is used to describe and optimize the access paths of your SQL code using both the standard tree and a step-by-step description of each execution. Also included are detailed instructions on the selected execution and the describe information for a selected object.
SQL Insight also provides additional statement analysis tools such as SQL Trace and AutoTrace. |

| Describing an object is used to gather specific information on an object within your database. This information could include the columns of a table, the source code of a package, or the general information of a sequence. SQL Insight's Describe interface provides a tabular display containing all possible information for the object and provides several function points for the object. |

Isidian® SQL Insight provides a Project Manager to help manage files, scripts, paths, and database connections in one simple interface.
Project files may be opened and saved as normal files, allowing you to have multiple project configurations. |

| Statement Comparisons are used to compare the performance of individual statements. The customizable interface will help automatically identify problem statements, show tuning progress, and allow the printing or saving of the comparison information for reporting purposes. Using the Statement Comparisons, the statements of an entire application may be automatically diagnosed to identify performance bottlenecks in a few simple clicks. |

The Integrated PL/SQL Debugger allows a user to diagnose complications within anonymous PL/SQL blocks and underlying methods (packages, procedures, etc.). The debugger comes equipped with the ability to set and control the attributes of breakpoints, exception handling, variable value hints, the call stack, a variables list, and evaluating or modifying variable values.

SQL Insight's Profiler interface grants the ability to execute and cache statistical information on PL/SQL blocks and methods (packages, procedures, etc.). The Profiler Analysis displays this statistical information allowing a user to compare executions or view the execution statistics line by line to determine performance problems.

Browse the shared pool with the SGA Browser, used to easily identify those statements needing improvement by seeing the execution statistics of all statements being processed by the database and comparisons of the statistics of each statement against the average statement processed.
The SGA Browser integrates the advanced grid functionality allowing you to sort, filter, and group statements along with the explain plan utility and various other tools. |

Manage the distribution of your files or products using SQL Insight's FTP Manager, a built-in, fully functional, FTP client interface.
The FTP Manager contains the ability to create or modify local and remote directories, transfer files in both binary and ascii mode, and update file permissions. |

| The Source Code Control (SCC) Manager provides communication to any version control system that implements an SCC interface. This includes but is not limited to: Microsoft Visual SourceSafe; Borland StarTeam; CS-RCS; PVCS; and QVCS. The SCC Manager provides a direct integration to the version control system to allow SQL Insight the use of its file versioning capabilities. |
